City pass. You keep seeing this word around, but probably have no clue what it is. So let's dive in like it's the lagoon of your dreams. A city pass is (you guessed it) a pass to get into different places in a given city. Seems simple. But it's so much more. Take the London Pass. This is the first one I've ever used and I have done nothing but sing it's praises every since (yes, before starting this blog, or website, or even thinking people would care to know what I've learned). I'm not gonna lie, I stumbled upon it on accident, and it seemed to good to be true. This pass got me in to all the places I wanted to go, I was able to score it on sale (budget travel for the win) and it also came with a preloaded £20 oyster card (the reloadable transit card for London, you can use it on trains, buses, the tube.. you get the point). With this card we were able to get discounted and free entries, skip lines (if it's a fast track location), get discounts in giftshops, stores, and restaurants around town. It's one of those cases where you get to spend a little to save a LOT. Yes, this is a blog about saving money while you travel, and that's part of budget travel. It doesn't mean not spending money and EVERYTHING MUST BE DISCOUNTED AT ALL TIMES! It means you spend some here to save a lot there. It's impossible to travel without spending any money, but if you're smart about it you can really get some bang for your buck!
When I purchased the card you had to choose how many days you want it to be active, the more days the more they discount the daily cost (make sense? Good!). We went with a 3 day card, and the countdown begins the first time you use the card. Since then they have added another incredible option where choose how many times you can use the card and it's good for 60 days. This is a really great option if you're working abroad and trying to see a lot while you're there but keep it to a budget. Here is a sampling of the places I was able to use the card:
Tower of London Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus Tour
The View from the Shard
Thames River Boat Cruise
Westminster Abbey Tower Bridge – FAST TRACK ENTRANCE
St. Paul’s Cathedral – FAST TRACK ENTRANCE
Madame Tussauds Hampton Court Palace – FAST TRACK ENTRANCE
Kensington Palace London Bridge Experience – FAST TRACK ENTRANCE
Windsor Castle Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
London Zoo – FAST TRACK ENTRANCE
Churchill War Rooms
HMS Belfast
Royal Albert Hall
Kew Gardens – FAST TRACK ENTRANCE
That is just a small sampling of 99 places you can check out! Really if you don't see the value in this IDK how else to explain it. EXCEPT to say, you won't regret it.
The even better news? When I purchased the London Pass that was the only city. HOWEVER, now that some time has gone by there have been so many cities added, if you are going to a main destination city you will most likely find a pass to that city so definitely check it out:
Amsterdam
New York
Oahu
Madrid
Bangkok
Las Vegas
Dublin
Vienna
Sydney
And the list goes on and on. So what's stopping you? Next vacation make sure you pick up a pass. It's definitely worth it. I personally will be purchasing them for my boyfriend and I on each of our vacations.
I also want to throw it out there that I wasn't told to post this by the company, nor are they paying me for this blog. However, that being said I am an affiliate (and I applied to be since it was something I've used and have been preaching about anyways). So should you decide to check out City Pass through my links I will get a small monetary compensation. Which pays for this blog and keeps the lights on.
Hey fellow dirty tourists!
Here's the scoop: I'm in cahoots with some pretty cool companies, and when you click on some of my links, there's a chance I might earn a little somethin'-somethin'. But fear not, it won't cost you an arm, a leg, or your firstborn. It just earns me a little digital high-five from them.
Rest assured, I only recommend stuff I genuinely think is worth your time, money, and maybe even a chuckle or two. But hey, if you're not vibing with it, that's totally cool too! You do you, and I'll keep the fun travel tips coming your way.
Happy travels ❤️
